Advanced Micro Devices on Thursday introduced an ATI Radeon HD 5800 series graphics card that fills a gap in the chip maker's product line.

With 1,120 stream processors, a core clock speed of 800 MHz and a 256-bit memory interface, the ATI Radeon HD 5830 fits between the company's Radeon HD 5770 and the 5850. The new graphics card has processing power of 1.79 teraFLOPS.

Like the Radeon HD 5850, the 5830 includes AMD's Eyefinity technology, which supports up to three monitors with maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. All of AMD's Radeon HD 5800 series processors are aimed at PC gamers and enthusiasts.

In introducing the HD 5830, AMD also introduced a product with a price tag that fits between the 5850 and 5770. The new product sells for $239.

"The ATI Radeon HD 5830 graphics card makes enthusiast-level performance even more accessible to gamers," Matt Skynner, VP and general manager of the AMD Graphics Division, said in a statement.

AMD has been releasing graphics cards steadily to hit every price point to appeal to gamers, PC enthusiasts, and mainstream desktop users. This month, the company introduced a sub-$60 Radeon HD graphics card that supports DirectX 11.

The ATI Radeon HD 5450 gives many owners of lower-priced desktops the option of boosting graphics performance without spending a lot of money. The release provides "entry-level" performance and does not require a fan for cooling.

The HD 5450 shipped a month after AMD released the $99 Radeon HD 5670, which was AMD's first sub-$100 DirectX 11 card. The chip maker claims to have shipped more than 2 million graphics cards supporting the Microsoft multimedia technology.

AMD's major rival in graphics cards is Nvidia, which makes the GeForce line.
