Todd Townsend: To the Future and Beyond.

BYTE -- It's my nature to want to know more. I've just always been obsessively curious. Since I was a kid, I wanted to know to look at everything new. I'd ask: What? How? Why? But especially, what next?

I always wanted to know what was coming down the road. Sound familiar? I hope so, because now that BYTE is back, there's a place for thirsty knowledge seekers like you and me. It's right here.

We've reached a point in society -- and in business -- where personal tech touches everything. We're personally engaged. People like us are interested in a lot more than just a basic level of understanding about social networks, smartphones, tablets, social tech, the cloud and gadgets. We want a deeptech understanding.

My colleagues and I here at BYTE will be covering these topics head-on -- with thorough and innovative tech perspective that is just right for these times, as personal tech and business collide.

I'm going to be looking ahead at the possibilities. For Front&Center, I'll be looking out five, 10 or even 20 years at trends you care about. As personal tech continues its exponential growth, I'm interested in the potential, progress and opportunities it provides.

Today we all battle the reality of dropped mobile phone calls and problematic software. At the same time, we're thinking about alternative energy sources, self-driving cars, endless clean energy, mass adoption of personal air travel, putting humans on Mars, as well as radical and almost unbelievable advances in medicine.

From conception to fruition, these types of ideas fascinate me. I can't wait to share them with you here at BYTE. We're just at the infancy of a revolution. An evolution.

Here at Front&Center, I'll be interacting with you mainly via video, bringing you news, views and interviews with visionaries. Like the technology BYTE covers, I expect the format to evolve over time, keeping pace with the rapid change in the world around us.
