The proposed acquisition of graphics specialist ATI Technologies is near completion. ATI shareholders gave approval of the move on Friday, and final court approval is expected by the end of the month.

AMD announced its plans to acquire ATI in July. AMD will pay about $5.4 billion in cash and stocks.

Beginning in 2007, AMD plans to market "customer-centric platforms" using AMD and ATI technologies that will include all existing product offerings from the two companies. In 2008, AMD plans to provide a platform that integrates its processors with ATI's graphics engines to meet specific media, data, and graphics requirements.
