Computer Sciences Corp. has signed a 10-year, $1.1 billion deal to provide a range of IT services to aeronautics and manufacturing company Textron Inc.

CSC will help manage and support Textron's global data center, help desk and network operations, as well as maintain the company's desktop, server, and mainframe computer systems.

Textron, based in Providence, R.I., operates Bell Helicopter, Cessna Aircraft, and other manufacturing companies. About 250 Textron IT workers will transfer to CSC as part of the deal. "Re-employment of our people was a critical consideration in our decision-making process," Ken Bohlen, Textron's executive VP and chief innovation officer, said in a statement on Thursday.

Textron says it's hoping the deal with CSC will give it a more predictable IT cost structure and a more consistent user environment across all its operations.
