The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is readying request for proposals (RFPs) for several major contracts that could total up to $5 billion, the agency confirmed via e-mail this week.

The contracts are in support of DISA and Department of Defense (DoD) agencies' IT and telecommunications requirements and are a part of the agency's Global Information Grid (GIG) Services Management-Operations, it said. The RFPs are set to be released later this summer and in the fall. According to documentation for the RFPs on FedBizOpps.gov, requirements for the awards are to obtain performance-based services that include provisioning, net operations, net assurance, and network maintenance on a global basis. DISA is a component of the DoD that provides computing infrastructure and services to the military. The agency awarded 29,294 contracts last year for a total of $3.8 billion, it said. Science Applications International topped the list of contractors receiving payment from DISA last year, with $339 million in obligated payments. Northrop Grumman ($310 million), Apptis Incorporated ($266 million), Computer Sciences Corp. ($174 million), and Artel ($152 million) round out the list of top firms in terms of dollar-value awards from the agency in 2009. Verizon Business Network Services, ActionNet, Unisys, and Deloitte & Touche also were awarded major contracts with DISA last year for a range of activities, including software support and enterprise network services.
