Scuderia Ferrari, maker of the famed Ferrari sports cars, has tapped Indian IT services firm Tata Consultancy Services for help designing its next Formula 1 racer.

Under what TCS officials are calling a multiyear, multimillion-dollar arrangement, TCS will provide Ferrari's design team with software engineering and integration services. TCS will focus on developing software that helps integrate the car's on-board control mechanisms, which regulate everything from torsion control to steering sensitivity.

Ferrari expects to debut the F1 vehicle during the 2005 racing season.
