The International Standards Organization is updating its ISO 1800-series passive UHF-frequency radio-frequency identification standards, which will bring them more in line with EPCglobal's RFID specs. Meanwhile, EPCglobal's next-generation RFID proposal will be published by October. Royalty fees for intellectual-property rights are delaying EPCglobal's working group from finalizing its standards, but the two groups hope to agree on identical global standards this year.
