Sun has announced a deal with On2 Technologies (on2.com) to license their technology for Java FX video capabilities. See sun.com/aboutsun/pr/2008-05/sunflash.20080507.3.xml for more information. Specifically to help make Sun's Java FX multi-media platform a success, On2 will be providing their TrueMotion video codecs and compression technology.

The point is to provide one Java-based platform that works equally across all screens; cell phone, desktop, and television (via set-top boxes). Java FX is meant to be this environment, and up until now, Sun has focused on Java 2D and Swing integration. adding 3D, sound, and now video capabilities to the Java FX has been the focus of this JavaOne.

Poll: Is Java FX interesting or important to you? Do you care one way or the other about Java FX Script, Java FX Mobile, or the platform in general? Write back in the comments section below.
