Stuart Scott was let go for "violation of company policies;" two executives tapped to assume his responsibilities in the interim.Microsoft's PR firm, Waggener Edstrom, is keeping a tight lid on the sudden departure of Microsoft's most recent CIO, Stuart Scott. Enquiries to various members of the PR team elicited this short-but-sweet e-mail response:

We can confirm that Stuart Scott was terminated after an investigation for violation of company policies. In the interim, Microsoft General Manager Shahla Aly and Corporate Vice President Alain Crozier will assume his responsibilities until a replacement is identified.

The spokesperson added this in e-mail: "We have no further information to share."

According to a quick Internet search, Aly is a general manager of Microsoft's services organization, and came to the company in 2001 from IBM, having worked in that company's Global Services division. Crozier is corporate VP and CFO for the sales, marketing and services group (SMSG) at Microsoft, according to his profile on the company's Web site. He joined Microsoft in 1994.

The CIO position at Microsoft has been something of a revolving door in the last few years. Scott joined Microsoft as CIO from General Electric in 2005, first sharing the CIO spot with Ron Markezich, who later moved into the position of VP of managed solutions, which he occupies now. Markezich took over the CIO spot in 2004 from Rick Devenuti, who became senior VP, Microsoft Services and IT. Devenuti retired last February.
