Novell Readies Open-Source Startup Incubator

Novell plans to open an open-source technology center on its Provo, Utah, campus in the third quarter, providing support and services to startup and early stage open-source software firms.

Novell Inc. on Tuesday said it plans to open an open-source technology center on its Provo, Utah, campus in the third quarter.

The center, which will take up 25,000 square feet of office space that the corporate headquarters, will be dedicated initially to start-up and early stage open-source software companies. Novell plans to offer office, business and technical services, as well as the opportunity for investment capital.

Specific features, terms and service arrangements are expected to be made available to prospective companies through Novell's website.

"The Novell Open Source Technology Center is intended to provide a launching pad for new ideas, products and solutions," Jack Messman, chairman and chief executive of the infrastructure software vendor, said in a statement.
