Samsung released a large collection of tablets and smartphones in June, but the company wasn't done inventing just yet. On Wednesday, the electronics giant released three new products: the Galaxy Note 3 smartphone, Note 10.1 tablet and Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
The Note 3, pictured, has a 1920 x 1080 pixel Super AMOLED screen and weighs in at 168 g. The 5.7" screen is longer, not wider, than most smartphones, so the phone can still be held in one hand. While still a bit large for a smartphone, it is thinner, narrower and lighter than the Note 2.
The Note 3 is powered with a 3200-mAh battery and will run on either an LTE 2.3-GHz quad-core processor or a 1.9-GHz Octa Core processor, depending on the market. It has 32 or 64 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM. Other features include a 13-megapixel rear camera (2 megapixels in front) and 1080p HD video for the front and back cameras. The phone will run on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Software improvements on the Note 3 include a revamped version of the Multi Window tool, which lets you run two programs in separate windows on the same screen. The new drag-and-drop function lets you bring text and images from one window to the other. You can chat with two friends on the same screen, or catch up on the news in one browser as you conduct a Web search in another.
The Note 3 will include Samsung WatchON video discovery software and Samsung Knox security. It also has an improved version of Find My Mobile. Stronger user authentication prevents a stolen phone from being reset to factory settings. You can also track and erase the data on a phone that has been lost or stolen.
Samsung went for a new look with the Note 3 and swapped out the glossy plastic case in favor of a faux-leather back panel with stitching that resembles a notebook or planner cover. The phone still looks like a Galaxy product, but its new casing has a nicer look and feel, compared to hard plastic.
Available colors will include Jet Black, Classic White and Blush Pink. Samsung announced it will offer exchangeable back covers in a variety of other colors at launch.
The Note 3, Note 10.1 and Galaxy Gear will be available for purchase in 149 countries on September 25. They will be available worldwide in October.

Both the Note 3 smartphone and Note 10.1 tablet feature an improved S Pen stylus with Air Command software. You access the Air Command user interface by clicking the stylus button while hovering over the screen.
The Air Command menu provides access to five key functions:
-- Action Memo: Convert handwritten information into formatted content. To save a contact, for example, you can handwrite a name and number with the stylus then draw a circle around that information. A menu will appear to give you the options of calling or saving the contact.
-- Scrapbook: Organize favorite Web pages in one place. You can save Web pages, photos and YouTube videos by drawing a circle around the information in your browser. You can save the page in a Scrapbook folder for future access. The function also saves the site URL.
-- Screen Write: Take a screenshot image and write comments on top of the picture.
-- S Finder: Search for content on your phone. You can enter keywords, dates or locations to find documents, calendar events, chat threads, handwritten content or the help page.
-- Pen Window: Open another application with the stylus. By drawing a window on your screen, you can open another app such as calculator, YouTube or another browser window.
The Note 10.1 tablet has a few features in common with the Note 3 smartphone. In addition to having the new S Pen stylus, it runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and has 3 GB of RAM. The Note 10.1 also has the TouchWiz user interface, WatchON video software and Samsung Knox security.
The 10" screen has 2560 x 1600 pixels for a WQXGA LCD display. The device is 7.99-mm thick and weighs 535 or 545 grams, depending on whether you choose Wi-Fi or 3G. It has an 8-megapixel camera and runs on an 8220-mAh battery. You can choose to have 16, 32 or 64 GB of storage.
The much-anticipated Galaxy Gear smartwatch packs smartphone features into a wearable accessory for the Galaxy Note 3 smartphone. It has a metallic face but is primarily made of plastic, and available colors include black, gray, beige, green, gold and orange. The 1.63" screen has 320 x 320 pixels. The watch has an 800-MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB for photo storage. According to Samsung, it has a battery life of 24 hours.
Features include a 1.9-megapixel camera built into the wristband, which can also record 10-second videos. It can also be used as a speakerphone. The watch runs on Android, but its interface is simple. You can switch watch faces and apps with the swipe of one finger.

The Galaxy Gear's simple apps include a stopwatch, music player controls and a pedometer, but it also has more advanced capabilities, such as Photo Mode selection and the ability to dial calls. The gadget also holds a few third-party apps such as Evernote, eBay, MyFitnessPal, Path and Banjo.
Though it has multiple capabilities, much of the Gear's functionality depends on its accompanying smartphone because the watch does not have Wi-Fi. Right now it is only an accessory for the Note 3, but Samsung anticipates that other Galaxy phones will become compatible in the future.
