Sprint Delivers Android 2.1 To Samsung Moment

Today Sprint finally began to rollout Android 2.1 to the Samsung Moment. The Moment launched back in October with Android 1.5. The update from 1.5 to 2.1 is huge, bringing tons of new features to the Moment. Unfortunately, the update can not be downloaded over the air.Sprint is informing subscribers with the Samsung Moment that Android 2.1 is ready for their device. In order to install the sweeping system update, users will need to download it from Sprint first. (Link here.) Once the system software has been downloaded, users will need to attach the Moment to the PC with a USB cable. From there on out, it will walk users through the process to update their system software.

This is a long over-due upgrade for Moment users, who have had their devices far longer than some of the newer Android handsets that have already been updated to 2.1 (Droid, Eris, etc.). Thankfully, Sprint isn't leaving its customers with the HTC Hero out in the cold for much longer, either. Sprint indicated that the Android 2.1. update for the Hero is on the way. With it, users will also automatically get the latest version of HTC's Sense user interface overlay, which is a solid upgrade in itself.

These updates, paired with the Eris' Android 2.1 update earlier this week, mean that a good number of the Android handsets in the market have been upgraded to 2.1. It is a shame that HTC's myTouch 3G, which has been around for a year, hasn't been updated. Here's a full rundown on what Moment users can expect with the update:
