The latest entry in the Android-based tablet market comes from Stream TV Networks, which is launching a new, 7-inch mobile tablet called Stream TV eLocity A7 that the company is touting as more portable than the iPad.

The tablet has a 1-GHz Tegra II-720 processor, an 800 x 400 pixel resolution, and a capacitive multi-touch screen and measures 8.2 inches by 4.8 inches. It runs Android 2.2, has a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera, and also features the Nvidia Tegra 2 SoC to allow for playback of 1080p high-definition video and games.

It has Wi-Fi and 3G capabilities and offers access to a large variety of mobile apps and compatibility with "common office software," Philadelphia-based Stream TV said. But Android Marketplace will not be accessible, since Google doesn't allow non-phone devices yet, according to Engadget, so the eLocity A7 will instead include app store GetJar.

Others features include a wireless keyboard, an SD card slot, and USB and HDMI input/output cables, along with an HDMI cord so the tablet can be connected to an HDTV.

The eLocity A7 "provides a cutting-edge solution to meet the needs of technology enthusiasts with a beautiful, versatile, and affordable device,'' said Mathu Rajan, CEO of Stream TV Networks, in a statement. "We believe we have created a worthy competitor to the iPad."

No battery information was made available. The device will be released for preorders on Amazon.com in September for $399. In a statement, Stream TV said it is working with national online retailers to sell the A7, which will begin shipping in October. The company could not be reached for further comment.

The company said the introduction of the eLocity A7 is "the first step in Stream TV's strategic growth plan to bring to market innovative products featuring state-of-the-art technology designed to transform consumer communications and a digital lifestyle."
