Anybody can post a bunch of resum?s and call his or her site a job board. So TechProfiles Inc., a recently launched recruitment site for the IT industry, hopes to draw both candidates and employers from competing sites with a free skills assessment.

At the site, IT professionals can take online tests covering more than 60 topics, from Visual Basic to Oracle database development. Results are graded instantly, then each participant can post the "report card" and a resum?.<P>"While we've definitely seen a trend of job boards shifting from resum?s to profile databases, TechProfiles.com has an edge by offering the skills assessment for free," says Chris Boone, an E-recruitment analyst at International Data Corp. "Job seekers are known to be extremely reluctant to pay for online services."

Access is free to IT job seekers. TechProfiles is also giving employers a 45-day free trial.
