WebSideStory on Thursday launched a software tool that online retailers can integrate into their sites to enhance the results from product searches.

Active Browsing, built using Ajax, adds to the interactivity of search results by displaying product details and "more-like-this" categories when potential buyers move their cursors over a picture. The feature is currently being used by underwear maker Jockey.

Ajax, which stands for asynchronous JavaScript and XML, uses an enhancement in JavaScript that allows Web pages to be more interactive and behave like desktop applications.

Active Browsing accesses product data stored in a server and overlays it on the page in the form of a bubble. Such tools avoid having to send shoppers to another page for more information.

Pricing for the new product was not disclosed.
