Linguamatics Upgrades Text-Mining Software

Linguamatics has upgraded its text-mining software for the life-science market. With I2E 3.0, the company says it has improved on the product's ability to extract facts and relationships from large document collections.

The upgrade offers natural-language processing-based querying for interpreting the meaning of unstructured text sources and returning results. The software also provides a search-engine approach to build and refine queries.

Extracted information is presented in a structured format, and users have the ability to drill-down to supported evidence, the company said. There's also a domain-knowledge plug-in for improving semantic search capabilities using taxonomies, thesauri and ontologies.

Pricing for the latest version of I2E was not disclosed.

Text mining is an emerging area that some experts see as the next push in business intelligence along with predictive analytics. Larger vendors have moved into the field, including Business Objects, which was bought by SAP; IBM and SPSS. The latter company this month released Clementime 12.0 and Text Mining for Clementine 12.0, which SPSS claims makes predictive analytics and text mining more accessible to ordinary business users.
