AT&T provides visual voice mail to one device on its network right now. You may have heard of it, it is called the iPhone. According to reports, AT&T is ready to enable visual voice mail on BlackBerry smartphones, too.Visual voice mail is simply the way voice mail on cellular phones should be.

On the iPhone, you can see a record of all your voice mails in a list, and pick and choose which e-mails you listen to in whichever order you wish. No such thing as dialing into the voice mail system and sitting through all the messages to get to the last one.

Visual voice mail works in similar fashion for the BlackBerry Storm on Verizon Wireless's network.

The key factor involved with visual voice mail on these devices is that it is network dependent.

According to a screen grab posted on The Boy Genius, visual voice mail as an add-on product for BlackBerrys is in AT&T's billing system. Right now, it appears as though the visual voice mail will be free for BlackBerrys.

Neither AT&T nor RIM have spoken publicly of plans for visual voice mail on AT&T's BlackBerrys, but there is hope that it will be available before too long.
