Intel Backs JBoss

Intel will provide JBoss with hardware resources and expertise to complete Java 2 Enterprise Edition certification for the Intel Itanium and Intel Xeon processors.

Open-source company JBoss on Monday said Intel has joined other investors in its recent $10 million round of funding.

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based, chipmaker joined Matrix Partners and Accel Partners in the latest venture financing, officials with Atlanta-based JBoss said. In addition, Intel has agreed to provide JBoss with hardware resources and expertise to complete Java 2 Enterprise Edition certification for the Intel Itanium and Intel Xeon processors.

JBoss makes an application server based on Java 2 enterprise standards, promoting its on Linux, which has become an alternative to proprietary Unix and Windows Server operating systems. JBoss offers its software for free, charging for consulting services and support.
