The OSx86 Project, a Web site for enthusiasts of the new Intel-based Macs from Apple Computer Inc., has been served with a copyright violation notice, the site said.
As a result of the notice, the site was forced to take down its forum, a message board that members use to discuss a variety of topics related to the new computers. Apple in January started rolling out computers based on Intel Corp. processors, which will eventually replace all Apple computers running on IBM PowerPC chips. "We're sorry to report that despite our best efforts, the OSx86 Project has been served with a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998) violation notice," a posting on the site said. "The forum will be unavailable while we evaluate its contents to remove any violations present." Officials for the site were not immediately available for comment, and there was no indication as to the nature of the alleged copyright violations.
