Apple knew its iPhone 2.0 software would be popular. Nonetheless, iPhone users trying to install the update have overwhelmed Apple's servers, leaving lots of unhappy iPhone users.About an hour (on the West Coast) after Apple released the iPhone 2.0 software update, its support forum is filled with complaints about bricked iPhones (at least they can make emergency calls).
After 32 minutes on hold with Apple phone support, all representatives are still busy. It was about 15 minutes ago that the automated voice on the line said the next representative would be available in two minutes.
Someone posting in the Apple support forum who did manage to contact an Apple support person reported, "The tech said that Apple's server has shut down because of the huge surge of people who are updating their phones. They are now working on it, he said."
The downside of a closed system like the iPhone is that you're at Apple's or AT&T's mercy when things go wrong.
