Google led the Credit Suisse Disruptive Technology Portfolio index upward last week as good earnings news elevated the company's shares and convinced the market that its prospects remain strong.
Google's stock price jumped 7.7% in after-hours trading following the release of its third-quarter results on Oct. 19. The company beat expectations, nearly doubling its profits over the same period last year and garnering a 70% increase in revenue. The earnings report also indicates that Google is growing two to three times faster than its peers. The share price held onto its momentum and climbed higher over the following four trading days, rising a total of 16%. Google continues to benefit from strong demand for online advertising, and its recent acquisition of YouTube lets the company expand its video search capabilities.
Last week, the Disruptive Technology Portfolio increased 6%, easily outpacing the S&P 500, which rose 1.2%. Overall, 17 portfolio stocks were up, while 13 lost ground.
