Over 30 Touch Devices To Be Ready For Windows 8

A raft of touch-enabled Windows 8 tablets and hybrid notebook-tablets will be available when Windows 8 ships in October. Here's an unofficial list, including devices from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba.

Irish blogger and Microsoft MVP Aidan Finn has collected a list of "designed-for-Windows 8 devices that will be available at or soon after Windows 8 general availability (GA)." The list is in an Excel .xlsx file downloadable from the blog page.

HP ENVY x2

Finn does not include Win8-upgradable notebooks. He does include a single conventional notebook, the Asus Zenbook U500VZ, an ultrabook. The rest appear to be touch devices, such as the HP Envy x2 pictured here. Many are hybrid notebook/tablets and some are conventional tablets.

Finn's list is useful, but has no official status. As he notes: "You'd be amazed how inconsistent some of this information is, e.g. no one can agree on the name of the new Toshiba 'slider.'"

He helpfully includes not just names, but also resolution, the CPU, mass storage, RAM, battery life, weight, and thickness where available, as well as which are running Windows RT as opposed to full Windows 8.
