NASA has extended Science Applications International Corp.'s contract to provide services to support its Information Technology Services Network in a deal potentially worth more than $62 million. SAIC has been the prime contractor for the Unified NASA Information Technology Services (UNITeS) contract since 2004. When awarded, the contract was worth $823.6 million. Under the contract, the firm provides a range of IT services and systems integration to a number of NASA facilities, including NASA headquarters in Washington, the NASA Shared Services Center, and agency field centers. The new extension has an eight-month base period worth more than $36 million, and options to continue the service for 14 months through March 2012. If all options are exercised, the contract is worth more than $62 million. Specific services SAIC currently provides and will continue to provide under the extension include managing NASA's worldwide network services as well as audio-visual, telecommunications, IT procurement, and security services. SAIC also supports computers and mainframe systems for NASA. The contract also calls for SAIC to provide more work for the NASA Enterprise Applications Competency Center by supporting system administration and mainframe operations administered by NASA's George C. Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. SAIC already was awarded a $321 million contract in December to support the competency center as a follow-on to its existing UNITeS contract.
