Veritas Updates Data Lifecycle Manager

Veritas on Monday shipped Data Lifecycle Manager 5.0, software designed to help companies account for data from creation to deletion as they're pressed to meet various regulatory requirements.
Data Lifecycle Manager 5.0 includes high-speed search and index features for both new and earlier-archived data, said Veritas, and lets enterprises automate the management of files and messaging data by employing policy-driven retention, migration, and deletion processes.
The new software integrates with Veritas' NetBackup and NetBackup Exec -- backup and recovery packages that the Mountain View, Ca.-based company also sells -- to address compliance issues without adding new hardware. The combination of Data Lifecycle Manager and NetBackup allows companies to index historical backup information from the latter so that users can with one search look for files or archived e-mails across terabytes of data.
Also on Monday, Veritas opened a New York City-based center that will offer customer briefings, presentations, and hands-on demonstrations of regulatory and compliance solutions from Veritas and its partners.
