Good Technology on Wednesday released an upgrade of Good for Enterprise, an email and collaboration app that helps employees use their smartphones without compromising a company's security. The major upgrade was focused on making the app easier to use and require fewer clicks.

The popularity of smartphones is spilling over into the workplace, said Cheryl Tang, senior product marketing manager of Good Technology. "There was a time when smartphones weren't that popular. Today if you walk around the streets, people carry smartphones [with them everywhere]," she said.

Tang came by BYTE's headquarters to demo the upgraded app, which is available on iOS and Android. The main features include being able to track tasks, snap photos and share them securely, review calendar attachments, and make conference calls.

"A picture is worth a thousand words. [For example, the Good app allows an employee to] snap a photo of a mechanical part that's broken [and send it] to an engineer. That speeds up the business process," said Tang. "[It also] allows employees to look at attachments on a calendar, so they can take a look at the material before a presentation."
