I don't understand why anyone needs to be encouraged to submit resumes if they are unemployed at the moment.

He found a good opportunity shortly before the holidays, but if he hadn't he would have had to choose to continue searching everyday, submitting resumes, and working on sample projects for two interested companies or actually taking a break and relaxing and enjoying the family while off work for a awhile. I completely understand why someone would want a break when the Holidays are whizzing by with family and celebrations and gifts to buy and play with.
But if you haven't found something, as stressful as looking for a job can get, if you want to make a change, keep looking over the Holidays, you never know when the right opportunity with present itself. (Which could be a great present for your whole family.)
