Computer Associates on Wednesday named George Fischer as senior VP of North American sales and Kevin Kern as senior VP and CIO.

Fischer fills the position vacated by Greg Corgan, who in April was promoted to executive VP of worldwide sales. Kern takes over for Walter Thomas, who remains with CA as a senior VP of IT.

Fischer previously served as senior VP for the Northeast sales region. Kern joins CA from Hewlett-Packard, where he was VP of worldwide managed services, design, and delivery. Fischer reports to Corgan, and Kern reports to Mark Barrenechea, executive VP of product development.

The personnel moves come as CA continues its search for a CEO. The company's board is considering interim CEO Ken Cron for the permanent position, according to recent public statements by chairman Lewis Ranieri.

Cron took the interim CEO slot at CA on April 26 after the resignation of former CEO and chairman Sanjay Kumar, who became the focus of a still-pending federal investigation of accounting practices at the company during his watch.

Despite Ranieri's recent statements, Cron has said his post won't be permanent. "I am not a candidate for the full CEO position," he said in April. Cron previously was a CA board member and is a former president of CMP Media.
