Mandrakesoft on Thursday launched an update service aimed at simplifying the task of updating the company's Linux-based systems.

Mandrakeonline, which targets corporate customers, automates downloading of security patches, bug fixes and software updates, which are based on a machine's hardware configuration and installed applications.

The service also includes alerts on available updates, which are delivered via email and applet notification on the desktop. Downloads can be scheduled by the users.

"We're very confident that Mandrakeonline will be quickly recognized by corporate users as an example of a reference quality-service in this field," Franois Bancilhon, chief executive of Mandrakesoft said in a statement.

Mandrakeonline is available for Mandrakelinux 10.0 users. Subscriptions start at $21.95 per year.
