IBM Supports Linux Lab At UMass Amherst

The University of Massachusetts at Amherst has announced plans to establish a Linux Lab to offer a curriculum on open source software.
The University of Massachusetts at Amherst has announced plans to establish a Linux Lab to offer a curriculum on open source software.

The IBM Corp. will donate $5 million worth of technology and gear to start the curriculum, the university announced last Wednesday.

IBM servers will be used in the university's UMass Amherst Engineering Research Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere. A Linux-based grid computing system is being employed to develop improved weather radar systems.
