CipherTrust Inc., the Atlanta messaging security vendor, today launched CipherTrust IronIM, an enterprise gateway appliance for secure instant message communications.

The new device joins CipherTrust's e-mail gateway security appliance, allowing users to manage policies, encrypt messages and monitor all enterprise messaging activity. IronIM is powered by the same policy engine as the IronMail e-mail security appliance, and integrates policy to secure, log, monitor and encrypt enterprise IM communications.

IronIM provides a single management platform to eliminate risks from IM-borne threats, ensure compliance with various industry and government regulations, and monitor for information leakage or other policy violations.

IronIM is different from software-only IM management products in that it manages inbound and outbound messaging threats at the gateway, before they enter or leave the corporate network, according to Alex Hernandez, CipherTrust's director of Advanced Product Development. "The same threats exist for both inbound and outbound messages, and companies have the same concerns whether it's e-mail or IM" he said. "We've built upon our strength in the e-mail space and are able to apply and leverage that knowledge in the IM space."

Hernandez said IronIM is the first gateway product to offer automated encryption capabilities for enterprise IM traffic.

IronIM supports multiple IM standards, including AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and corporate IM systems including Microsoft LCS and IBM SameTime. Administrators are provided with a graphical interface to set and enforce defined corporate policies company wide or at LDAP group level. IronIM uses CipherTrust's SpamProfiler and IntruderBlocker technologies to dissects messages using multiple content filtering techniques based on keywords, patterns and customized dictionaries.

The archiving capability in IronIM monitors and logs all instant messaging traffic and administrators can set archiving policies and search for old content.

CipherTrust IronIM is available immediately with entry-level prices starting at $5,995.
