I'll be first in line tomorrow morning to pick up an iPhone 3G, and you can come with me -- if not in person, then on Twitter. Follow me here for the event, which is sure to stretch my physical and mental limits to the maximum. Fortunately, I've been on a rigorous training program for the past six months, and I believe my body and mind have the reserves to stand up to the strain.I've been waiting in line to buy the iPhone for the past month now. Proper equipment is important, and milspec equipment developed for use in Iraq has proven invaluable. I've been living out of a tent at the Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego, eating MREs and drinking filtered water collected from a nearby stream. My wife brings me food and prescription medications daily. The separation has put a strain on our marriage, but she is a devoted life mate and understands that sometimes duty comes first.

Oh, all right, I'm making all that up. Not only am I not waiting on line to get an iPhone 3G right now, I'm not even planning to be there when the doors open at 8 a.m. I'll mosey on over an hour or so after that and pick up an iPhone. I'm not anticipating a huge line -- I live in San Diego, not San Francisco or New York. Most of us San Diegans have other things to do than line up on a weekday morning to buy an iPhone. Like, for example, work.

By the way, if you're in San Diego and want to join me at the Fashion Valley Mall tomorrow morning, give me a shout.

I'll post updates on my iPhone-buying to Twitter. You're welcome to follow me, and I'll follow you back. As a matter of fact, I've been Twittering about the iPhone this morning (along with my usual random Tourette's-like stream-of-consciousness prattle).

I did a Twitter diary when I bought the iPhone last year and I think it turned out entertaining: My iPhone Diary: A Thrill-Packed Friday Night Search For Steve Jobs' Latest Brainchild

I'm updating my first-generation iPhone to the iPhone 2.0 software right now, using the instructions my colleague Eric Zeman blogged. I've been Twittering my progress on that as I go. I'm so excited I could plotz.
