BEA Systems on Monday said it has agreed to resell AmberPoint's SOA runtime governance software, and would offer it under the AqualLogic brand later in the quarter.

BEA said the AmberPoint SOA Management System expands the AquaLogic product family by providing a policy-based approach to managing loosely coupled systems within a service-oriented architecture. As a result, a BEA customer would have the option of implementing policies that automate performance management and remedy exceptional conditions, BEA officials said.

An SOA is a form of distributed computing that takes a standards-based approach to application integration in order to automate business processes. As a result, some type of management software is necessary to make sure corporate policies and service-level agreements are enforced.

“It is critical that we offer our customers control and visibility into how their SOA systems are operating, and our partnership with AmberPoint is another way we can further help them do that,” Rob Levy, executive vice president and chief technology officer for BEA, said in a statement.

The product will be sold under the name of AquaLogic SOA Management, and include capabilities such as central policy management, and the ability to track quality of service and the policy compliance of all SOA components. Other benefits include a view of the real-time operational health and dependencies of components. In addition, the AmberPoint tools are designed to detect, diagnose and remedy exceptions; and to lower application-support costs through rapid diagnosis and problem resolution, BEA said.

Pricing for AquaLogic SOA Management was not disclosed.
