EDS is bringing in another former high-profile CIO as part of its turnaround effort. The IT services firm on Monday announced the hiring of Charles Feld, a former CIO at Delta Air Lines and Burlington Northern. EDS is also acquiring Feld's consulting firm--the Feld Group--for about $41 million in cash and $48 million in restricted stock.

Feld becomes executive VP overseeing EDS's portfolio management organization. EDS also named Feld Group chief operating officer Steve Schuckenbrock, a former CIO at PepsiCo, as executive VP for global sales and client solutions.

Analysts say the moves indicate that EDS is looking to its customer base--rather than competitors--to fill key executive slots. Late last year, EDS named former ChevronTexaco Corp. CIO Dave Clementz as executive VP for service delivery. "These people can speak with experience because they've done the job of running multi-million dollar IT departments," American Technology Research analyst David Garrity says.
