Speaking at the Google I/O Developer Conference, Android project leader Andy Rubin alluded to the possibility of a centralized store for buying and downloading applications to Android-based mobile devices.Android is Google's eagerly awaited open-source operating system for phones and other mobile devices, which has the potential to encourage more open and less expensive mobile phones and calling plans.
Hinting at plans for a store, Rubin said, "It would be a great benefit to the Android community to provide a place where people can go to safely and securely download content and where a billing system would allow developers to get paid for their effort. We wouldn?t have done our job if we didn?t provide something that helps developers get distribution."The Register, InformationWeek
