Hewlett-Packard Co. has hired Russell Reynolds Associates to help find a replacement for Carly Fiorina, who was fired this month after clashing with HP's board over company strategy, direction, and financial performance.

Andrea Redmond and Charles Tribbett, co-leads of the firm's CEO/Board Service Practice, will manage the search, HP said.

Beyond saying it was "pleased" to have Russell Reynolds assist in the search, HP withheld further comment.

"As we expect this search to be managed with the highest level of confidentiality, we will not comment further until we are ready to announce our new CEO," Patricia C. Dunn, non-executive chairman of the HP board, said in a statement.

HP announced Fiorina's outster Feb. 9. She was one of only eight female CEOs at Fortune 500 companies, and arguably the most powerful as head of the largest firm.
