Today LG announced its first Android handset, the GW620. Not only does the device have an amazingly boring name, but LG managed to say absolutely nothing about it. Why the mystery, LG?
LG's GW620 I'll hand it to LG. The company has succeeded at writing what has to be the least informative press release ever. The only facts shared are these:
The GW260 is an Android Phone
It has a three-inch touch screen
It has a full QWERTY keyboard.
It will be available in Europe at some point during the fourth quarter
That's it. The press release goes on to espouse all the Google goodness that the GW260 will have, but no concrete details are shared.
"The LG-GW620 will appeal to first-time smartphone customers by offering a new and different kind of user experience," said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "Our objective is to provide a wide selection of smartphones to satisfy the diverse preferences of today's consumers. This Android phone is just one of many smartphone models we plan to introduce worldwide in the years ahead."
Different kind of user interface? Does that mean LG is going to port its S-Class user interface (used on some of its feature phones) to Android? Or does that mean LG is going to create yet another brand-new user interface skin for Android?
What about the hardware? Will it have a camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, what 3G networks will it support? The list of questions for LG is pretty much endless at this point. Your guess is as good as mine as to what specs will be on board the LG GW260. Untill LG decides to share more information, we can always dream. What are your thoughts, what do you hope the GW260 will have?
