Virtualization has become quite popular in small and medium businesses because it enables companies to more efficiently use their server hardware. However, managing such devices has been a challenge, one that ManageEngine is trying to address.ManageEngine enhanced its OpManager performance monitoring product. The management tool now supports native VMware Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), so companies can discover, map, monitor, and report on the performance of VMware servers. A dashboard function enables companies to examine items for more than 70 VMware performance metrics, such as Top VMs, Top Hosts, All Devices, and Alarms.
On another note, OpManager now also automatically generates network maps that show Layer 2 and Layer 3 device connectivity and availability details. In addition, the management tool added twelve new availability and utilization widgets, ten new device templates, and support for external mail servers.
ManageEngine OpManager, which is used by about 8,500 businesses, has been gaining ground because of its low pricing and simple deployment compared to traditional network and systems management tools. Increasingly, small and medium businesses have been moving to virtualized environments and therefore needed tools to determine how well those systems were operating. While not breaking any new ground in this area, Manage Engine offers sufficient functionality so its users can now monitor those systems.
