Nokia today unveiled a hologram authentication system that helps users distinguish original Nokia batteries from counterfeit ones.

All future Nokia batteries will feature hologram labels, each consisting of a holographic image and a 20-digit authentication code hidden under a scratch-off area. Users can verify the legitimacy of the code either online or via an SMS message.

Poorly manufactured counterfeit batteries can overheated and explode. Nokia says the new hologram label enables users protect themselves against dangerous counterfeit batteries.
