Aftab: How do 3PT and life cycles help a harried corporate manager improve the privacy practices and better manage information risks?

Purcell: 3PT is the strategy, and life cycles are the tactics to achieve measurable, defined outcomes. One of the reasons that privacy initiatives remain ad hoc and short-lived is due to the lack of such a process model.

We are working with major corporations using the 3PT and life-cycles models. Ultimately, this process model can be applied to government, education, and nonprofit organizations. And I'm sure it can be applied to additional areas beyond privacy and security, too. The point is to have sustainable programs that become part of the corporate norm.

Aftab: You have only recently launched these programs and are already the hot new consultant, but what programs are already available? And what kind of consulting is the Corporate Privacy Group already offering?

Purcell: We have launched Privacy Directions 101: Awareness, the first course in a privacy curriculum that will span from broad-based employee awareness up to focused CPO and privacy-manager compliance training. We are developing the upper-level (200 series) privacy courses now for managers and advocates in HR, IT, finance, operations, sales, marketing, and other departments. These role-based courses provide detailed guidance for data protection and privacy for department directors, managers and privacy specialists. They will be available beginning in January 2004. In addition, CPG is providing privacy and management advice and counsel to Fortune 100 companies, government agencies, and consumer councils. We use the 3PT and life-cycle models to develop sustainable privacy programs that are effective and efficient. (See www.corporateprivacygroup.com.)

Aftab: Finally, Richard, how can people reach you with questions and if they need your help?
