SeaMobile To Offer Maritime Broadband
Technology promises to bring satellite-based broadband communications to cruise lines and the maritime industry.
Passengers boarding cruise ships will soon be able to connect their cell phones and wireless PDAs using technology that promises to bring satellite-based broadband communications to cruise lines and maritime industries.
Announced Tuesday, CapRock Communications will provide the satellite links while SeaMobile will deliver its wireless services for the maritime application.
The combined service will enable cruise lines and ship captains to deliver wireless applications to cell phones and other wireless devices that are routinely used on land.
“It enables passengers and crew to benefit from high-speed broadband services for Internet access and e-mail, including secure corporate data applications for PCs, servers and other devices connected to the ship’s onboard wired network,” the firms said in announcing their strategic alliance.
In June, Connexion by Boeing and Teekay Shipping Corporation unveiled a maritime broadband service for use by Teekay vessels.
