Siemens Enterprised Communications has annnounced its mobile UC client for Blackberry, Simbian and Windows Mobile Device users. Unlike other solutions that purport to be "mobile UC," but which really deliver only fixed-mobile convergence, OpenScape Mobility offers users all UC capabilities from their mobile devices. Whether they take advantage of mobile video and web conferencing remains to be seen, but presence, chat and telephony are key capabilities in the mobile UC world.Although most companies are still wrestling with the process of evaluating and deploying UC in the enterprise, most of the IT executives--and all of the line of business managers--recognize that extending unified communications capabilities to mobile users will be critical in the years to come. Siemens OpenScape was one of the first UC tools on the market, and the company continues to develop its technology even as competition from its longtime partner (Microsoft), newer partner (IBM Lotus) and traditional rivals (Avaya, Cisco, et. al.) heats up.
