Users who downloaded and installed an unofficial software update for the Motorola CLIQ are seeing red. Turns out there are major bugs in the update that essentially brick the CLIQ. T-Mobile's advice? Don't update. In January, system update 1.3.18 was accidentally released for the Motorola CLIQ. T-Mobile and Motorola caught their mistake and pulled the update. It was later released again, only to vanish altogether.
Those users who jumped on the chance to update their devices probably wish they hadn't. The update was not/is not final, and is wreaking havoc on the CLIQ. According to Motorola and T-Mobile forum posts, once users reboot their phones, a system time glitch sets the clock to 1969, which is causing some serious problems for the CLIQ. With the master time set at 1969, users are unable to log into Motoblur and unable to activate their devices. That pretty much renders the CLIQ useless. In response to customer complaints, T-Mobile posted the following in its forums:Thanks everyone for informing us on what the latest Motorola CLIQ OTA update has brought to light. We want to let everyone know that we have been reading your comments, and we hear you. We have forwarded your concerns to the appropriate people and are working hard on them. As of now, we advise you not to Master Reset your phone if your OTA update did not download or if you are experiencing issues at this time.In other words, don't download the system update, and if you did download the system update, don't do anything that might cause it to install. CLIQ users should be sure to wait until T-Mobile and Motorola offer an official and final software update before taking any chances with their phones. [Via AndroidandMe]
