Synology Releases DS409 4-Bay Storage Solution

The Disk Station DS409 can hold up to 8TB of data, while the new software adds a variety of new functions.According to Synology, the DS409 is powered by a 1.2 GHz CPU and sports 256MB of RAM, a 1 Gigabit LAN port, two USB 2.0 ports and aeSATA port. The DS409 supports up to hard drives of up to 2 TB, for a total of 8 TB of storage capacity in RAID 0 or JBOD configurations.
It's also designed to be "green," drawing just 42.9 watts of power under normal conditions. The DS409 can hold 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch (laptop-style) hard drives, and the "smart" fan doesn't run under normal conditions when 2.5-inch drives are installed. In addition, IT admins can schedule the device on and off and it features hard-disk hibernation to further cut power consumption. The DS409 ships with Synology's Disk Station Manager (DSM) 2.1 software. The beta version of DSM 2.2 is due next month, and will have the following features:
