Two New Options For Document Sharing And Collaboration

KnowledgeTree and SeeFile have launched SaaS versions of their document management platforms intended for SMBs. Each offers its own set of features targeted for particular types of documents and processes.The KnowledgeTree offering, formerly known as KnowledgeTreeLive, is focused on managing and tracking business document processes. The service features a drag-and-drop workflow designer for mapping the routing of a document, scheduling actions, creating alerts, and other process-oriented activities. It lets businesses store their files in folder hierarchies, whether built themselves or based on templates KnowledgeTree offers for different business areas. Employees and clients (when appropriate) can access uploaded documents on the company's secure servers and post edits and revisions, and the service keeps track of versions and transaction history.

The updated version of the service adds Salesforce.com integration, so that users can associate all the documents related to a customer with that customer record. "Recognizing the need for tight integration between a document management solution and other applications that rely on document artifacts, such as customer relationship management, marketing automation and web content management, the Salesforce integration represents one of many third party product connectors to come," says KnowledgeTree product director Evan Person. The KnowledgeTree service costs from $10/user/month with a 30-day free trial.

SeeFile has been in the digital asset management and collaboration business for many years, serving primarily agencies, design firms, and other creative professionals. It enables the sharing of PDFs and image files among multiple users and provides image- and layout-oriented viewing and commenting tools.

Up to now, SeeFile has been available as Mac OS X webserver software, with uploading, viewing, and commenting access available through any Mac or PC browser. Now a hosted, SaaS version has entered beta testing. The online service doesn't require any software installation or have any installation fees, provides unlimited data transfer, and can be branded with a user's or customer's logo.

The SaaS version of SeeFile starts at $35/month for two users and 10GB of storage and runs up to $80/month for ten users and 100GB of storage. Beta testers get a 60-day free trial and a 40 percent discount on the service for the first year. Those interested can apply for the beta program here.
