Getting the latest version of the BlackBerry PlayBook OS ensures you have up-to-date features and security updates. Here's how.
Turn on the PlayBook and swipe from the top bezel down. Tap on Software Updates to see if there's an update available. In this case there is. I need to update to version 1.0.5.2304. You'll see a brief description of what the update includes. Tap Download Now. 
For most OS updates on the PlayBook, you need to restart. Do so. Now you've got a better, more secure playbook. 
To double-check if you have the latest version, swipe down from the top of the bezel again, tap Software Updates and the version displays.
