Worthy New Year's Resolution - Don't Text And Drive

The New Year is just days away and people will be making all sorts of resolutions. Many won't make it a full month or even a full week before falling back to their old ways. One resolution that is worth making a serious effort to keep though is no texting while driving.This isn't the first time I've written about texting and driving, and unless the problem vanishes, it probably won't be the last.

AT&T, like many other carriers, also discourages the practice but rather than just telling us not to do it, they have put together a ten minute documentary on the dangers of driving and texting.

It just isn't worth it. If there is anything so critical that you must read or respond to a text, it is worth pulling over for. Even at red lights you need to be paying attention. Today I saw one person sit through most of a green light because they were focused on their phone's screen rather than the road and another not notice the fire engine bearing down on them. While everyone else was pulling over to the side to make way for the fire truck, they were busy texting.

If you must text, then you should at least post all of your texts to Twitter. If it is important enough for you to risk the lives of those around you, then I for darn sure want to read it, but I hope you won't mind if I wait until I am at my destination before doing so.
