HTC's highly-anticipated and well-received Droid Incredible smartphone, is available --on back order -- at Verizon Wireless for $200 with a two-year contract.

Meanwhile, online shoppers can find the Incredible significantly discounted on Amazon, which is selling the phone for $149.99, with free, two-day shipping and the purchase of a Verizon service plan. Verizon Wireless says it will ship the device on May 14th.

Droid Incredible features a touch screen, 8.0 megapixel camera with a dual LED flash, a wide selection of interactive widgets, 8GB internal memory with a microSD expansion slot and Friend Stream for streamlined updates from popular social networking sites such as Flickr, Facebook and Twitter.

It is the first Verizon Wireless phone to take advantage of Qualcomm's 1GHz superfast Snapdragon processor, and it's the first available phone from Verizon Wireless to include an 8 megapixel camera.

Other features of the smartphone include "Leap" view for quick access to all seven home screen panels; a 3.7 inch WVGA (480 x 800) AMOLED capacitive touch display; optical joystick for smooth navigation; dedicated, touch-sensitive Home, Menu, Back and Search keys; proximity sensor, light sensor and digital compass; integrated GPS; Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and a 3.5 mm headset jack.

Initial feedback on the Incredible has been positive, with reviewers calling it the best Android phone on the market and the best-looking in the Verizon lineup. "The Incredible is likely to have the biggest impact on Google's nascent foray into retailing; consumers will have absolutely no reason to buy the upcoming Verizon Wireless-specific version of the Nexus One when the Incredible is available at retail," wrote Avi Greengart, research director for Consumer Devices, at Sterling, Va.-based Current Analysis, in a report on the HTC Droid Incredible last month.

The Incredible's usability is expected to make it a more compelling sell than the Motorola Droid, Verizon's last Android hit. "While we have seen these components used before, the Droid Incredible is more than the sum of its parts, and those parts have clearly been optimized for speed," Greengart wrote. "Apps launch instantly and the device can handle multiple apps running in the background without any noticeable hitches."

The Verizon Wireless price on the Droid Incredible is $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement. Customers will also need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and an email and Web for Smartphone plan.
