IBM BOLSTERS SOA PRODUCTS AND SERVICES ARSENAL

IBM announced 23 enhanced products and 11 new services in support of service-oriented architecture (SOA) in early October. On the product front, a new WebSphere Registry and Repository promotes reuse by letting users publish and find Web services and related metadata. A WebSphere Business Modeler upgrade lets users implement key performance indicators. Upgrades to WebSphere Business Monitor enhance business activity monitoring, and WebSphere Process Server updates boost support for human workflow. IT service management and security were also improved, but IBM highlighted new competency centers, governance methodologies and services (including SOA Management Planning) aimed at easing SOA implementation challenges.

ORACLE LAUNCHES LOW-COST DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT

Oracle has rolled out "low-cost" ($50,000 per processor) document management software that works with Office documents, PDF and image files, as well as other unstructured data. The Oracle Content Database consolidates content into a secure repository, while the Oracle Records Database manages retention and disposition in compliance with regulatory mandates and corporate policy.
