Charlie, would you think much of the financial companies get embraced by this open compute approach? Financial domains are the one keeping away from cloud and networking due to various security concerns. In that aspect is the new method/technology is capable to address all such concerns.

Open source server and switches

Fidelity will start to convert its data centers to Open Stack private clouds through 2015, with Open Compute specifications providing the cloud hardware. With a common underlying hardware and Open Stack supervising software, Fidelity will end up with a more flexible and easily expandable set of resources. "

Charles, to what extend these will be in open source nature. If it's an open source also, how fidelity is going to secure their server and switches? What's are the benefits fidelity is going to derive by offering open source server and services.

Goldman Sachs special orders database-intensive servers

Don Duet, co-head of technology infrastructure at Goldman Sachs, said his firm still uses special order hardware, not OCP standadized servers, for "low latency and database intensive" workloads. But he said Goldman is also working with OCP technical groups to potentially move into an OCP specified, compute-intensive server design.

I also wonder where the steady-state lands -- that will tell much about the level of disruption in the industry. Is it 70% commodity Open Compute designs, and 30% highly engineered hardware systems? That's a much different landscape that something closer to 90-10.
