re: AMD 'Hondo' Windows 8 Tablet Chips: Tough Odds
A few points here:

1) If AMD is trying to take on Samsung, Apple and Microsoft at the same time, they are going fail miserably. However, if they work with OEM vendors, they could come in competitively.

2) Intel has been a long time archenemy, so they are trying to hit them hard. They have yet to land any real punches.

3) Intel hasn't made many inroads with Ultrabooks because they are too damned expensive. I can get the same power in a notebook that is $200-400 cheaper. No way I am paying that much for a little bit of portability. Especially when I have to have USB adapters for everything on an ultrabook (network, CD, etc) because the form is too small for traditional ports.
